R&D Centre, J.K. Tyre, Jaykaygram, P.O. Tyre Factory, Rajsamand Rajasthan, India In the present study, polybutadiene rubber has been mixed in ASTM standard formulation using different mixing equipment like Banbury, Mixing mill, and Brabender Plasticorder. The combination of a Banbury mixer and two-roll mill has also been used in one of the combinations. Two sets of each combination are mixed for studying repeatability and reproducibility. Processing properties like Mooney viscosity and rheometric study including performance properties like stress—strain and Payne effect study are made. Among all four combinations, the compound mixed using a Brabender Plasticorder shows exceptionally different behavior in processing as well as in performance properties.
Key Words: Banbury mixer Brabender Plasticorder processing and performance properties Payne effect.
